The EV drift world record has been set. If you’ve ever taken your car sideways, intentionally or not, then you know about how fine the line is between a clean drift and a telephone pole.
Now, just think: Could you hold that for 55 minutes over a distance of 26.2 miles, the same as a Marathon? No. You can’t. But Porsche driving instructor Dennis Retera can. He managed to pull off the feat in a Porsche Taycan EV. This set a new Guinness world record.
Word Record, Shattered
The world record was set in a real-wheel-drive Taycan. The record-breaking stunt was performed at Porsche’s Hockenheimring center. There, there is a 656 foot (200 meter) long drift circle. The track is specially designed to enable low speed drifting (at 29 mph)
When the driving stability programs are switched off, a powerslide with the electric Porsche is extremely easy, especially of course with this model variant. Nevertheless, it was also very tiring for me to keep my concentration high for 210 laps, especially as the irrigated asphalt of the drift circuit does not provide the same grip everywhere.

It’s The Time For Electric Vehicles to Shine
Electric Vehicles have come a very long way. Now, in 2020 with this world record, they far outperform their liquid-fuel-burning counterparts. As the prices of lithium-ion batteries fall, Electric Vehicles become more and more attractive to the average consumer.
Little stunts like this are becoming more and more common place. Soon, people won’t mention if a new record is broken in an electric vehicle because sooner than you may think, electric vehicles are becoming the norm.
