The production of some MacBook and iPad models has been delayed by Apple in response to the global chip shortage caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In the case of the MacBook, the supply chain program has hindered a key manufacturing step where components are mounted on printed circuit boards.
Also, iPad production has been delayed due to a display components shortage.
This chip shortage hasn’t shown a huge impact yet, but at this rate, it’s only a matter of time before there are problems unless action is taken. Apple generally fairs pretty well in managing complex supply chains, so expect the damage to be kept to a minimum.
The electronics and automotive industries, however, have already started to feel the effects of semiconductor shortages. Companies like Ford and Nissan have even had to cut vehicle production. Also, the PlayStation 5 is going to stay in short supply for at least the next few months.
It’s starting to become a huge concern. Even the Biden administration has weighed in on the issue saying its taking ‘aggressive steps’ so that it can address it.
Production of the iPhone has not yet been affected by the global semiconductor shortages. The iPhone 12 did, however, run into ‘supply constraints.’
