Sharp has announced a pair of smart, Alexa-enabled microwaves. First is the medium-sized SMC1139FS. It has a 1.1 cubic foot capacity. The second microwave is the SMC1449FS. It’s larger and provides 1.4 cubic feet of cooking volume.
Both smart microwaves will be able to listen for voice commands for things like defrosting meat. Also, they’re specifically tuned to be able to perfectly pop Orville Redenbacher popcorn. If you ask Alexa to ‘microwave classic popcorn’ it will be able to pop one perfectly.
What you can actually say to these smart microwaves differs between the two models. The smaller model has about 30 voice commands and 10 voice-only presets. The larger smart microwave, however, has 70 commands and room for around 50 voice-only presets.
Both smart microwaves are available now. You can get the smaller, 1.1 cubic foot model for $150 and the larger 1.4 cubic foot version for $170.
