If you were one of the people that bought a Porsche Taycan in 2020, we have some good news for you. Your vehicle will be receiving a software update that will bring the 2020 Taycan up-to-date with things like new intelligent charging, improved driving dynamics, and the latest navigation and infotainment features. The best part is that the patch is completely free. Porsche is basically taking a play for Tesla’s book with this one. It is important to note, however, that some key upgrades like Active Lane Keep Assist cost money.

One of the main features of this update is that it gives drivers several additional options and more control when it comes to charging the vehicle. You are able to specify what level of charge you want to have by the time you arrive at your destination. The Porsche app will let you notify you when your battery has charged enough to make that happen. Also in the patch is a new ‘Battery-Saving Charging’ function, letting you reduce charging capacity in exchange for longer battery life.

Also, the software update provides improved acceleration and driving dynamics. The Taycan Turbo S gets enhanced slip control, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 120 mph in 9.6 seconds, that’s 0.2 seconds faster than before the software update. Taycan models that have the adaptive air suspension option get access to the new Smartlift function that lets you program the Taycan to adjust its ride height at recurring locations such as ‘road humps or garage driveways.’
The navigation system is getting an upgrade that will see the inclusion of traffic information with lane-level precision. Also, anyone who connects with an Apple ID gets access to Apple Podcasts directly within the vehicles infotainment system.
In addition to the above freebies , Porsche is giving owners access to a few paid OTA (Over-The-Air) updates via the ‘Functions on Demand’ feature. You can find features like Power Steering Plus, Active Lane Keep Assist and Porsche InnoDrive in the selection of paid upgrades. According to Porsche, ‘Customers can choose whether they want to purchase the respective function for their Taycan or take out a monthly subscription.’
Even though this is a free OTA update, Porsche explained that tweaks to the transmission and drive components are required. So, once you get this update you will have to take your vehicle to a Porsche Center to finish the process.
